Applications & Information » Uniform Bar Examination (UBE) Transfer » Applications Based On An Existing UBE Score
Except for limited certificates of admission, foreign legal consultants, and pro hac vice admissions, applicants seeking admission to practice law in South Carolina must comply with the requirements set forth in Rule 402 of the South Carolina Appellate Court Rules (SCACR). Only persons who have received a JD or LLB degree from a law school that was approved by the Council of the Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar of the American Bar Association at the time the degree was conferred are eligible for admission under this rule. Please consult the rule for other requirements.
On May 1, 2017, the Office of Bar Admissions began accepting Applications for Admission based on an existing UBE Score.
A scaled score of 266 is required for admission and may not be over three years old at the time the application is filed. See Rule 402(c)(5), SCACR (establishing how to calculate the three-year period).
If the score is from another jurisdiction, the score must be transferred to South Carolina by the National Conference of Bar Examiners.
Additional information on transferring a UBE score is available at www.ncbex.org/ncbe-exam-score-services/ube-score-services.
To complete an Application for Admission based on an existing UBE score, the applicant must register for an account. Once the applicant has created an account, the applicant can log in and apply for the Uniform Bar Examination (UBE) Transfer.
